Seven Shopify Data Entry Expert Tips
Seven checks for product data before a Shopify upload: naming rules, variants, images, descriptions, and tags.
Pet catalogs, done for you
Bag sizes, flavors, life stages, and pet sizes become clear variants and filters, feeding guides go in exactly as supplied, and every product is sorted by animal.
Free, custom quote for every job. No price list.

At a glance
Our team enters and uploads your pet food, toys, grooming supplies, accessories, and health products to Shopify from the files you send. These are the facts pet stores ask about first.
Updated
The problem, and the fix
Pet catalogs mix very different products: a 15 kg bag of food, a cat wand, and a flea treatment each need different fields. Supplier files rarely line those fields up the same way twice.
We set up one product per recipe with Size as an option, so every bag size becomes a variant with its own SKU, price, barcode, and weight.
We enter a weight on every variant. Shopify treats a product with no weight as weightless, which can drop a heavy cart into a lower shipping rate (as of October 2026, see the Shopify Help Center).
We tag every food with its animal, life stage, and breed size, and build the collections owners use to find their own pet's food.
We enter each brand's measurements, such as neck girth or bed length in cm and in, so owners size by their pet instead of by a letter.
We copy ingredients, the nutrient analysis, and feeding guide tables exactly as your supplier gives them, and we don't add or change health claims.
What we handle
We handle the full record for each product: the animal it's for, sizes and weights, label details, variants, and collections. You tell us your conventions, and we apply them across food, toys, grooming, accessories, and health products.
Need something that isn't listed? Tell us which fields your store uses, and we'll include them in your quote.

Here is how three rows from a supplier price list become one Shopify product with three variants. The product and its data are an example, not a real client.
A supplier lists each bag size as its own product, spells the recipe three ways, and leaves out the shipping weight:
| Code | Description | Size | Barcode | Wholesale |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| FB-2 | Fernbrook Adult Chicken & Rice LB | 2kg | 2001234000017 | US$11.50 |
| FB-7 | FERNBROOK ADULT chicken/rice large breed | 7 KG | 2001234000024 | US$31.00 |
| FB-15 | Fernbrook Adlt Chkn Rice Lg Brd | 15kg | 2001234000031 | US$58.00 |
We turn them into one product with Size as its option. Each variant gets its own SKU, barcode, price, and the weight that weight-based shipping rates rely on:
| Handle | Option1: Size | Variant SKU | Variant weight | Tags |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| fernbrook-adult-large-breed-chicken-rice | 2 kg (4.4 lb) | FB-ALB-CR-2 | 2 kg | Dog, Adult, Large breed, Dry |
| fernbrook-adult-large-breed-chicken-rice | 7 kg (15.4 lb) | FB-ALB-CR-7 | 7 kg | Dog, Adult, Large breed, Dry |
| fernbrook-adult-large-breed-chicken-rice | 15 kg (33 lb) | FB-ALB-CR-15 | 15 kg | Dog, Adult, Large breed, Dry |
Each Shopify product can have only one product category (as of October 2026, see the Shopify Help Center). For this food it is Dog Food > Non-Prescription Dog Food, which adds fields such as dog age group, pet food flavor, and pet food form. We fill them from the same supplier data.

We upload pet food, pet toys, grooming supplies, pet accessories, and pet health products. Each range has its own fields and its own pitfalls, so here is what we watch for in each one.

Dry, wet, raw, and freeze-dried food and treats, sold in several bag sizes, flavors, and life stages.

Chew toys, plush, balls, puzzle feeders, and cat wands, chosen by animal, size, and play style.
Pet Supplies Grooming Supplies
Shampoos, brushes, clippers, and nail care, where coat type and size matter.
Pet Supplies Pet Accessories
Collars, harnesses, leashes, beds, bowls, crates, and carriers, where a size chart decides the order.

Flea and tick treatments, dental care, pet supplements, and first-aid supplies, where label wording must stay exactly as supplied.

FAQ
Yes, we upload pet supplies to Shopify for you, with every bag size as its own variant and a weight on each. These answers cover variants, claims, weights, size charts, and cost.
Yes. We set up each recipe as one product with Size as an option, so every bag size becomes a variant with its own SKU, price, barcode, and weight. Flavors can be a second option or separate products, whichever your store prefers.
No. We enter ingredients, directions, dosage, and warnings exactly as your supplier or the label gives them, and we don't add or change health claims. Checking that a product can be sold where you sell it stays with you and your supplier.
Shopify uses product weight for weight-based and carrier-calculated shipping rates, and it treats a product with no weight as weightless. A heavy bag with no weight can be undercharged at checkout, so we enter a weight on every variant.
We tag every product with its animal and, where it applies, its life stage and breed size. Then we build collections such as dog food, puppy, senior cat, or grooming, and set the product type and Shopify product category. Our guide to Shopify collections and categories explains how the two work together.
Yes. We build size charts from each supplier's measurements, such as neck girth, chest girth, or bed length, in cm and in. Each size is set up as a variant with its own SKU.
Your supplier files (spreadsheets, PDF catalogs, or a link to the supplier website), your product images, and photos of the label or back of pack when the files leave details out. Tell us your naming rules and the collections you want. If nothing is written down, send a few product titles you like, and we match them.
A free, custom quote, based on recipes, bag sizes, and fields. A single dog bed is one product in one size, while a food range in 6 recipes and 3 bag sizes is 18 variants, each with its own weight, SKU, and barcode.
