Shopify Categories vs Collections: A Complete Guide
How Shopify's standard product categories differ from the collections you create, and how to use both to organize a catalog.
Done-for-you product uploads
We upload food and drink ranges to Shopify by pack size and flavor, with ingredients, allergens, and nutrition details entered as your supplier provides them, and unit prices in place.

At a glance
We are a done-for-you service for Shopify stores that sell food and drink. You send supplier spec sheets, label images, and photos, and our team enters and uploads every product. Here are the key facts in one place.
Updated
The problem, and the fix
Every pack size, flavor, and multipack is its own variant with its own weight, barcode and price, and the label details have to match the pack. Supplier spec sheets rarely lay that out the way Shopify needs it.
How we fix it: We write every weight in one format, such as 250 g (8.8 oz), and enter a shipping weight for each variant, because Shopify uses product weight to calculate shipping rates.
How we fix it: We transcribe them from the label or spec sheet into the same fields on every product, and ask you when the sheet and the label disagree.
How we fix it: We set up singles, multipacks, and cases the way your store sells them, as variants or as separate products, each with its own SKU, barcode, and price.
How we fix it: We map supplier names to your store's flavor names before upload, so filters, swatches, and collections stay consistent.
How we fix it: We enter each variant's net amount for Shopify's unit price, so your store can show the price per 100 g or per liter next to the price.
What we handle
We handle pack details, label information, product attributes, images, and collections for every product. Label details are entered exactly as your supplier or packaging provides them.

Here is how three lines from a supplier spec sheet become one product with correct weights and unit prices. The product, prices, and data are an example, not a real client.
The supplier lists a 350 g bag, a 1 kg bulk bag, and a case of six, with the weights written three different ways and the case named as if it were a different product:
| Code | Description | Net wt | Gross wt | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| GRN-350 | Maple pecan granola 350g | 350g | 0.42kg | US$8.50 |
| GRN-1KG | Granola maple/pecan 1kg bulk | 1kg | 1100 g | US$19.00 |
| GRN-6x350 | MAPLE PECAN GRANOLA 6 x 350g CASE | 2.1kg | 2.6 kg | US$48.00 |
We set it up as one product with a Size option. The net amount drives the unit price, and the gross weight goes in the shipping weight field:
| Option: Size | Variant SKU | Unit price setup | Unit price shown | Shipping weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 350 g (12.3 oz) | GRN-350 | 350 g, per 100 g | US$2.43 / 100 g | 0.42 kg (0.93 lb) |
| 1 kg (2.2 lb) | GRN-1KG | 1 kg, per 100 g | US$1.90 / 100 g | 1.1 kg (2.4 lb) |
| Case of 6 × 350 g | GRN-6X350 | 2.1 kg, per 100 g | US$2.29 / 100 g | 2.6 kg (5.7 lb) |
With weight-based shipping rates, Shopify adds your default package weight to the product weight (as of October 2026, see the Shopify Help Center). If the supplier's gross weight already includes the carton, tell us how your packages are set up and we enter weights to match, so packaging isn't counted twice.

Spec sheets, label artwork, and pack photos. We can hold a new range until its launch date.
We fix inaccuracies and inconsistencies, and standardize names, sizes, and formats to your store's conventions.
Weights, volumes, and flavor names follow one format. Label wording stays as supplied.
We check everything for accuracy, clarity, and searchability before it goes live.
Allergens, ingredients, and net amounts are checked against the label images.
We upload and publish to your store, formatted and ready for customers, with progress updates along the way.
Large ranges can start with a small test batch, so you can check pack sizes and unit prices before the rest.

FAQ
Yes, we upload food and beverage products to Shopify for you, with label details entered as supplied. These answers cover allergens, unit pricing, multipacks, and cost.
We enter allergen statements and nutrition details exactly as your supplier or label provides them, and we tell you when two sources disagree. We don't test products or review labels for legal compliance. Food labeling rules differ by country, so confirm them with your supplier or your local food regulator.
Yes. We enter the net amount and base measure for each variant, and Shopify calculates the unit price, such as US$2.43 per 100 g. Online Store 2.0 themes show unit prices without extra setup (as of October 2026).
We set them up the way your store sells them: as variants of one product, such as Single, 6-pack, and Case of 24, or as separate products. Each one gets its own SKU, barcode, price, and shipping weight.
Ask us when you request a quote. Most ranges start from a supplier spreadsheet or spec sheet, and if your details exist only on pack photos, your quote says how we will handle them.
Yes, through our SEO product descriptions service. We describe taste, origin, and use from the details you and your supplier provide, and we don't add health or nutrition claims.
Yes. Price updates on existing products are part of our product data entry service, and large changes can run as one checked bulk upload.
Free, and custom to your range. Pack sizes and label details drive the work more than product count: a single jar of honey is one variant, while a coffee range in 6 grinds and 3 sizes is 18, each with its own weight and unit price.
